Setup / 01

Start with representative content.

A polished demo is useful, but a resilient theme begins with real products, collections, navigation, policies, and edge states.

Before installation

Prepare the store, not just the theme.

Brass Archive can display a broad range of catalogs, but the initial configuration should reflect the merchant's real operating model. Prepare representative products before evaluating layouts.

  • At least one collection with enough products to test filters and pagination.
  • A product with multiple variants, prices, media, SKU values, and availability states.
  • A sold-out product and a product with a compare-at price.
  • Navigation menus, search terms, policies, contact details, and social links.
  • Accurate delivery, returns, materials, dimensions, and care information.

Install and orient

Use one preset, then choose a direction.

  1. Install the Brass Archive preset from Shopify.
  2. Keep the theme unpublished while configuration and review are in progress.
  3. Open Theme settings → Appearance → Design direction.
  4. Begin with Guided editorial, the default direction.
  5. Add representative sections and connect every button, menu, collection, product, article, and policy link.
  6. Preview the home, collection, product, search, cart, password, gift-card, account, and 404 journeys before publication.

Content quality

Replace every placeholder with merchant truth.

Default text demonstrates intended usage. Replace it with accurate merchant copy before going live. Confirm that claims, prices, availability, delivery, policy links, and image alternative text match the current storefront.

Catalog

Titles, variants, SKUs, prices, stock, dimensions, and media.

Service

Shipping, returns, contact, privacy, terms, and response expectations.

Discovery

Menus, search, filters, sorting, recommendations, and collection links.

Accessibility

Heading order, labels, alt text, keyboard flow, focus, and contrast.

Pre-publish verification

Test the customer journey from both ends.

Test in the theme editor and the storefront. Repeat the primary journey on desktop and mobile, with keyboard navigation, and with JavaScript disabled for essential navigation and purchasing controls.
